Patient Satisfaction
Patient Satisfaction With Standard Methadone and Flexible Buprenorphine/Naloxone Models of Care: Results From a Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
The 3W’s and an H.
Fact Sheet.
Journal Article.
-
People with prescription-type opioid use disorder who participated in the OPTIMA trial and were receiving either flexible BUP/NAL or methadone.
-
To examine how participants’ satisfaction with their treatment changed over time. This study also examined predictors of patient satisfaction and if there was a link between treatment dropout/illicit drug use and reported patient satisfaction.
-
Patient Satisfaction was measured using the Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ). Researchers looked at how participants’ scores changed over time and if the scores were different between participants receiving flexible BUP/NAL vs. methadone.
-
Throughout the study, patients were “satisfied” with their treatment.
The average Client Satisfaction Questionnaire score did not change significantly over time.
There was no significant difference in CSQ based on treatment assignment (i.e., methadone vs flexible buprenorphine/naloxone) overall or over time.
Predictors of increases in patient satisfaction included:
High levels of depression at baseline
Decreased depressive symptoms over the course of the study
The level of patient satisfaction was related to whether or not participants stayed on their medication. Illicit drug use was not linked to level of patient satisfaction.
